I have been living in a caravan for 18 months now and my biggest fear of all time were the trees around us andthat ifwe had high winds would we be safe? We were always told it would be fine
Recently we have had horrendous high winds on the South Coast and other parts of the UK
Well, my worst fears happened today!
Mr. LD had just dropped me at work at 2pm this afternoon, i had a phone call as Mr. LD drove off, it was the caravan site manager to tell me that a tree had just come down on top of our caravan, yeah very funny i thought
When i realised it couldn't bea joke my immediate thought was my cats!!!!! I burst into tears crying down the phone at him to get my cats!!!! Poor bloke
He was trying to make me calm by saying they are probably alright and run off......NOOOOO, even worse as they are house cats and have never been out!!!!!!
I was in a mess, i couldn't get hold of Mr. LD as he was driving, i went into work and they saw the mess i was in and someone drove me home, well, itWAS a home!
Mr. LD in the meantime had got home and called me to say they had found JayBee (1 cat) but they couldn't find Mr. Pickles, i was screaming down the phone to find him, everyone was shouting down the phone about the damage done to the caravan, i didn't give a shit i just wanted my cats to be safe!!!!!
On my way home Mr. LD called again to say he had found Mr. Pickles, he had been hiding....no shit!!!! I was so relieved my little boys were fine, ok, i know they are only cats but they are my babies
This is what i came home too:
These pics are my bedroom!

When i got home i stood on our ramp talking to the site manager when he suddenly started screaming 'get out the way and started to push me down the ramp and over the road, a 2nd huge tree in front of our caravan also came down!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't believe what was going on!!!!!!
This is the tree that has now crushed our ramp that took us 8 months to get built for Mr. LD's disability, so thathe didn't have to fall down the bloody steps any more!!!!!

Round the back of our caravan:

http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg228/lonelydancer/5th%20January%202012/NewYear2012033.jpg
I am still very thankful for small mercy's though, nobody was in it, nobody else on site was hurt and my cats were ok, we have been in touch with the insurance company and keeping our fingers crossed that they don't say there favourite thing, 'sorry, it's an act of God'! I will give them another act of God if they come out with that!
We arestaying at my sister's tonight, pussy cats too
Tomorrow i will have to take off work again for the mega clean up, it's still a mess there, the site manager and his posse of workers were very good shifting the tree of the roof for us and cleaning up a bit
http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg228/lonelydancer/5th%20January%202012/NewYear2012028-1.jpg
The manager said he could sort us out one of his caravans to stay in until we can sort this out, but they are even colder than ours so i am not looking forward to it, i don't want to stay any longer in my sister's because it will put them out with 2 cats as well
I remember sat earlier on a tree stump in these horrendous gale force winds, i was sobbing because i had just about had it with life when i saw all these people coming from nowhere with their chainsaws etc. They started to cut the logs up and i just watched and thought that was so kind and helpful of them.......until they all disappeared and came back with their trailers and threw all the logs in the back and disappeared without saying a word to me or Mr. LD, these people have got the log burners in their lodges, they had just picked up their free firewood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you believe that?!!!!!!!
I just thought how sad this world is becoming and i then carried on crying but this time with laughter!!!!!!!
I was so down earlier but now i'm just exhausted so i'm off to bed
Do you know what was really amazing though?
Me and Mr. LD actually made it to 5 days into the new year before things turned to crap, that has to be a record!! 5 days of a new year with no crap!!!!

LD! I'm happy to hear everybody is safe and well - that looks so scary! Hopefully the insurance will understand, the mainland has taken quite a battering this Winter..
So you and Mr LD on 5 day record? Maybe the trees fainted with shock! hehe!
Anyway I hope everything steers in the right direction for you guys - and anybody else affected - that you've not lost anything that will be impossible to replace. You're lucky to have such a nice caravan site manager!

OMG LD I am completely shocked!!!!!!!!! This can't be real can it??? This can't be happening to you!!!!!!!!! How is it possible that one can have this much of bad luck in a lifetime???? Oh dear, I feel so sorry for you!!! Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you guys! Of course it is good to read that neither you or mr Ld or the cats were in there and none of you got hurt but still.... it's so unfair!!!!!!!!! Just incredible to read that some people had the nerv to collect the wood!!! Indeed what is wrong with this world!!!!!!!!! I will keep my fingers crossed for you guys, hoping that the insurance company does the right thing by helping you out as soon as possible!!! So sorry that you have to go through all this!!!

Oh my Jan!! Someone up there really is throwing spanners in the works for you guys aren't they?
Bet you've got so used to dealing with adversity now, I'm not sure you'd know what to do if things ran smoothly for you.
The main thing is that you, Mr LD and "the boys" are safe.
Hope the insurance company plays fair and moves their a@@es to get this sorted for you ASAP.
Hugs Mx

Oh my God, what an awful thing to happen LD! The photos look like something from a disaster movie! This is truly horrible.
When reading your story I felt close to tears and I can just imagine the sheer panic and horror you must have felt at the thought of what might have happened to the cats. Years ago, before my allergies got worse, we had cats too and I would have been just the same in this situation. You must have been so relieved when you found them unharmed.
Although this situation is awful and it might seem that somebody up there has got something against you, my feelings are that maybe the opposite is true and somebody is watching over you, because if the trees had come down a short while earlier, the chances are you and Tony would both have been in the caravan and been badly hurt, or worse.
Looking at the ramp it's frightening to think what may have happened if anybody was on it when the trees fell!
I'm just thankful that all of you are OK and hope that you will end up with a nicer caravan and a safer plot to live on, when all those trees are removed. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help - I don't live that far away and would be happy to come down and help with the clear up if you'd like me to.

I can believe that, lol, yes!
I'm happy you and the Mr. are okay and that the cats are too!
Do you have more people who will help you repair things and clean up? I hope you do.
Keep safe and good luck!

LD, the photos are shocking but thanks to the circumstances everyone is safe and unharmed. Recent storms in UK seem to be complete disaster
How old are your cats? They still must be scared after what happened.

| Absolutely unbelievable LD! You made me welcome in your home last week, and you had everything so beautiful. Your ramp was great and took such hard work to get completed. I am so shocked by all of this. Like I said in my email, I dont want to get in your way, but if you do need a help in hand, please just say, and I will be straight down there from the ''north''!!! This is a really horrible, shocking time for you, Mr LD and the boys, but I am so relieved that you are all ok. The size of that tree! Thank God neither of you were in there. Im so glad cats have 9 lives. I hope that it hasn't upset them too much. Thinking of you, and remember, just say and I will be there. xx

Thankyou all so much for your lovely messages, your support never ceases to amaze me LMFAO CAAC, yeah, they fainted in shock
NurseBlunt, i think i may have smashed 100 mirrors!
Lithuanian, my babies are both 4 years old now, they seem fine thankyou:
Mr. Pickles http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg228/lonelydancer/Londongigs026.jpg
JayBee http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg228/lonelydancer/Londongigs025.jpg
They were very scared, JayBee came crawling from under the sofa and made his way across the floor on his belly, bless him Mr. Pickles was in the bedroom and didn't come out of hiding for half an hour, they turned that place upside down looking for him and we still don't know where he was hiding! We've had quite a day of it today, i'm knackered, the tree surgeon was here all day cutting up the other tree, we helped a bit but he brought his lads along to help out, phew, wish it had been summer....tops off etc....diet coke break....get my meaning...they were cute.....maybe a bit too young for me but who cares
Me and one of my friends on the site just stood drooling at them most of the time Anyway, we are just waiting for all the insurance forms to come through now, can't wait for that
The tree surgeon is coming back tomorrow to finish off, woohoo, hope he brings his lads............i'm a lumberjack and i'm ok............you have to know the song really It was quite sad watching him cut the other tree up, i quite liked it as a feature in the end:
http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg228/lonelydancer/5th%20January%202012/NewYear2012047.jpg
Good selling point i think, that along with very good air conditioning, bit too chilly in winter though
Anyway, we are now in another little caravan, we have a little electric fire, and some fan heaters, and a little TV, we are ok I will go back to work on Monday In 4 weeks time is the month we have to get out of our caravan for a month anyway, the site ruling as it isn't residential, we can only live here for 11 months, so we will be in another little caravan next door on the holiday site, i don't know how many times we are going to be moving our stuff in and out of caravans It will be like musical caravans!! Thanks again everyone for your messages, e mails, PM's and texts, so very sweet of you all, i have to get off my sisters computer now, i have been hogging it for over an hour!

OMG! LD, I am so sorry to hear what has happened to your home... and even more shocked to see the photos! I'm just so relieved that you and Mr LD were not in there, and your cats are safe and well (even if they are a bit shaken). The photos really are shocking, I can't even imagine what went through your mind when you saw it... it's just devastating. Glad your Site Manager is such a nice guy and your sister is there to help out. We had a tree surgeon out a few weeks ago to cut back a Silver Birch in our back garden, and in hindsight if we hadn't, the nieghbours probably wouldn't have their conservatory now. We had awful winds here, but you must have had it 5x worse on the coast. I can't believe weather could do this to your lovely home, it's awful. I hope your insurance covers it because it's enough worry to put right without the cost on top. Even when something so sudden and tragic happens, your glass is always half full. After picking up my jaw from the floor with shock, I admit I did laugh at your 'heroes' arriving to cut and remove all the trees for you without a word spoken - for their log burners! Just when your faith in humanity is restored, it gets up and slaps you again huh?! It feels very inappropriate to laugh, but you even manage to see the bright side in the dark, and I find it hard to understand why your positively attracts negativity at times... I'm going to start calling you 'Atomic Kitten'! I truly hope that everything gets sorted, and if I can anything at all to help you guys out, you know where I am. Tell Mr. LD, I promise not to call him stumpy under the current circumstances. Good Luck to you both, and don't forget to call me if I can help/listen/be a shoulder. Edit: Just was your recent update, glad to hear you've got another place for now... Good Luck!

Oh LD! Thank goodness neither of you were in the caravan at the time and that your cats have escaped unscathed. That is quite a shocking start to the year for you. Glad to hear that you've got a roof over your heads.
The same thing happened to the house of some friends of mine, again in high winds in January a few years back. The house was rebuilt by the insurers, so hopefully your insurance should pay out too for this situation.
I'm just so glad you are safe though, that is the main thing. {Hug}

Oh no, LD!! What a shock to read this! I haven't been here lately. How scary. I also think about the many trees behind our house in a strong wind. Lots of the trees have died due to cutting them back so much to build houses (my development was once just a forest) and many have fallen and others are dead but still standing and some leaning, etc. And with lightening you also never know what could happen.
I would also be terrified about the cats. So glad they're okay and you and Mr. LD also. I hope you don't have much trouble getting things all sorted out. Scary pics. Cute kitties! Sending you hugs. Take care, sweetie.

I am in love with Mr. Pickles and JayBee they are lovely! And JayBee is sleeping in the pose my cat used to love. I had the same stress when I brought him home and haven't seen for 24 hours. Then went on my knees around and finally found under the fridge. He was stuck and scared at the same time, so didn't even miaow. I felt very guilty then and had to ask help of neighbours to take him from there unharmed. I still miss him and don't know if I ever have another cat.
People here say that women can make comedy, tragedy and salad from nothing. Mr. LD is very lucky man because he shares life with very special lady. You're very optimistic person.
Years ago we had storm, I guess it was called Anatoliy. When it was over, part of parents' house roof was missing. It was raining heavily during the night, so some rooms were flooded with water. And early in the morning we went out to see the damage.
My mum saw how father was concerned and I guess was worried and tired herself too. She said that the grey colour was boring and now we have chance to put green roof that will go well with front door. My father answered that he can bet. I do not know what he expected to hear but they ended up both laughing. This situation reminded me yours a lot.

O my Jan, this is grave indeed.. Certainly have to agree with Tellie as well, or to have it any other way you haven't lost your wits in all that's gone on over the past year. I just read this after sending you a pm. I am so sorry for all this Jan. You and Mr. LD have gone through quite a bit together from what I've learned here on the boards. Takes a strong sort of love to be side by side through it all. I'm not only heartened by it, am thinking that no matter what life throws at us that there still strength there from those we love so much. So bend and sway, like a tree how ever need be sweetheart, but don't let that strength I clearly see in you break, you hear! You, Mr. LD, Jaybee and Mr. Pickles can and will get through this.. **hmmmm, I put my arms around you and give you great big hugs* So thankful you all are okay and wasn't hurt. ~ The audacity of those men coming to your home giving you the impression they're helping you instead taking off with the wood. Though it might have been help in other manners of speaking, but I would say that's the last thing anyone should witness after this horrendous event by acts of nature. Not to even say a hello or how are you faring, how may we help. They must be poor old men and gotten a bit cynical or haven't a care at all of their community/neighbors! Much a relief to have your site manager come and help, and hoping I read correctly, saved you from getting hit by a tree as it came tumbling down. Though I feel he should have done something about those trees long ago, but can't go off should-of's... Am thinking positive for the upcoming paper work through your insurance company. May the ball get rolling soon for your home to be restored and in safe keeping.. In the meantime, stay warm and out of the windy weather you're having there. Cuddles with your honey and kittys and stay in good humor as best you can, love.. Tsk, love you girl!

Thank god that no one was seriously hurt. Suddenly the tiles hanging off our roof seems...insignificant. Hope that things get sorted quickly for you.
These winds have been unbelievable recently although granted that the Scots have made light of it on twitter (have you seen what we've been calling the winds? lol) And read today that they aren't done yet :s *sigh* I think I'm going to hibernate until March......

Thankyou so much everyone for your lovely messages, you always know how to make me smile! Well, we have the insurance people coming round Tuesday afternoon, fingers crossed they don't say it was an 'act of God'!! There have been many claims recently due to the storms in the UK so they may try to wriggle a bit, we have been warned! It does state in our cover about storms etc. but some company's say that falling trees aren't a storm???????????? Even if they fall in a storm? Anyway, we will see on Tuesday I would like to take more time off work but i daren't because they are coming up with job losses at the end of the month so i'm trying to keep my head down at work and try not to take time off, that would be the icing on the cake if that happened, i don't know how me and Mr. LD would cope with that, we would probably have to be homed, but i'm not going to worry about that until it happens, if it happens The wood choppers came back on Saturday, my friend was with me, we were watching them together, hiding round the corner just praying for a heatwave, we had the diet coke at the ready, but alas, it got cloudy and cold instead, hmmpf Annmarie that is such an appropriate name even more now.......'stumpy' At least we slept like a 'log' last night!! Lithuanian, glad you have a cat that sleeps like that too! It is worrying when you are calling them and they don't come or miaow or do anything, grrrr Oh would you like to tell Mr. LD himself how lucky he is to have me! I keep trying to tell him that too Thanks again everyone for your support, it really does help
