Of course we all love James' music and have no wish for him to look for a change of career, but I was idly musing what else he might be good at, just for fun!
Often when listening to James being interviewed I notice that he has the knack of answering the question he wants to give the answer to rather than the one he was actually asked. A good politicians trick so could stand him in good stead if he went into politics.
He is good at always trying to say something nice about the the place, people or culture he is visiting on tour. Good skill for a diplomat? (At this point we shall draw a veil over the Polish hotel photo debacle as an abberation! )
Travel advisor. He's visited a lot more places in the world than most of us and has probably tried out lots of different airlines, hotels and restaurants.
Ski instructor?
Club DJ?
What alternative careers would you suggest for James and why?

| Here are some more ideas: a deep sea diver because he says he likes diving a games show host, I think he has a flare for games judging by the caption contests, poet and author, because of his song writing skills...

Lucia2 (10/08/2011)
Often when listening to James being interviewed I notice that he has the knack of answering the question he wants to give the answer to rather than the one he was actually asked. A good politicians trick so could stand him in good stead if he went into politics. I've noticed that too Lucia! Half the time he does it so deftly they don't even notice! Yes, I'm sure he'd make a success out of being a politician, but I don't think he'd enjoy it.
All your choices seem feasible to me, but the career I could seriously imagine him moving on to would be acting. He just has such an expressive, watchable face, and is seemingly able to tap into his emotions at will, when singing his more poignant songs, that I feel sure he'd make a great actor. He may get frustrated with all the hanging around between takes on a film set though, and also he may not like somebody else controlling the way things are done, so I guess it's inevitable he'd then move across into directing.
So, having sorted out the rest of James' career path for him, we may as well end this discussion now! Seriously though, James seems so talented and has such drive in him, I honestly think he could make a success of any career path he chose, with the exception of being a monk, for reasons best left unsaid!

He could go back to flying planes and be a pilot!
Or get employment as a church organist, after all he has an impressive CV for that now...
Escapologist? He seems quite good at wriggling himself out of trouble!

Crikey, there are some brilliant ideas here! I wonder why so many of them seem to involve James taking his clothes off though...?
Mmm...riding...showing off his chest...if they ever make another version of Pride and Prejudice, James would make a great Mr D'Arcy! I'm thinking of this scene in particular...

(Not knocking Colin Firth's performance of course - very nice!)

@Lucia2: My dear Lucia2 you responded to that construction worker suggestion a bit too quickly. Has someone been imagining Mr Blunt with his clothes off? Huh! Tsk Tsk Tsk!
@ Wolvie: Monk. Classic. Would one of those reasons that you can't mention why James can't be a monk be, Monks know how to sew a hole up in their shirts. I can’t possibly guess what any other reason would be Wolvie. *Ms Honey looks innocent while her Halo lights up so brightly that it blinds everyone around her.*
@Hils: Why a bodyguard Hils? Just so James can sing the song out of the bodyguard movie to you?
*Ms Honey carries Hils out of the topic singing, “I’ll allllllwaaaayyyssss love youuuuuuuuuuuuu.” Ms Honey changes her pitch to a higher one and makes dogs start howling from a 10, 000km radius.*

| I think his sympathy towards others would make him an excellent doctor, nurse or similar caretaker in the health field. Psychiatrist? Therapist? No one understands pain and unhappiness more than a Pisces.... but he's also creative which means he would be a great poet or writer. Actor? He's already great at that. Bartender?

No, no Ms Honey! You misunderstand me entirely. I was purely trying to imagine why James would be good as a construction worker. I promise you no untoward imagining was going on!!
Now, for a further career suggestion, how about a stuntman? He's had some practice at this sort of thing, jumping off a cliff in the 'You're beautiful' video, being set on fire in the 'Wisemen' one. And he shows no fear in regularly throwing himself into crowds of people. I'm sure he could hone those skills further!
